5 alternative therapy for mental health problems

If you’re looking for mental health support, the first thing your doctor would tell you is “find a therapist or psychiatrists that will help you”, but many times, it is not easy to find someone of the right qualifications and experience with these services because there are so many people out there that need treatment, not all of whom have a good understanding of what their particular issue is. Luckily, there are other ways you can get help without having to go through mental health care institutions. Below are five alternative therapy options for mentally challenged people looking into a different approach to their healthcare. In this list, we’ve included some of the most commonly sought-after alternative therapies like yoga, tai chi, and even herbal remedies. Each option below will give a brief overview of where the person is starting, the problems they currently face and how well these interventions could be working for them in terms of relieving symptoms, restoring functioning, and making daily life more comfortable and enjoyable.

1) Yoga

Yoga is one of the oldest forms of alternative therapy. According to Zen, Yoga is an ancient form of meditation and mindfulness. In fact, a Buddhist monk named Bodhi made yoga his profession during the time he was teaching it. It is believed by some that as old as 5000 BC, people practised various types of yoga in a bid to address mental problems such as depression and anxiety. There are many types of yogas and variations of them now used mainly by practitioners from India and around the world. One of the oldest and most popular Yogas, Shringa (yin in Hindi), is the practice in which the emphasis is on movement and focusing. Many of the methods practiced nowadays are borrowed from India’s Yoga (it has its origins in Tantric Buddhism and Hinduism). As mentioned above, Zen mentions about two kinds of yoga; Yin (in English) and Yang (in Chinese). While yin has physical benefits as well, as it helps burn fat and promote overall fitness, Yang is about the mind where yin is more concerned with the emotions of an individual. Yin yoga includes breathing techniques, meditation and stretching, while Yang yoga is much more focused on emotional wellbeing and self-care.

As stated by The National Library of Medicine, Yoga also offers numerous mental health advantages including:

· Strengthening memory, concentration and stress management skills

· Improves body weight

· Increases immunity

· Relieves pain

· Boosts immune system

· Reduces blood pressure

· Treating conditions such as asthma, cancer, epilepsy and Parkinson’s disease

2) Tai Chi or Chih (Taoist/Chinese Traditional)

Chih means “to awaken, awaken”, and is also known as Taoism or Chinese traditional. This form of traditional medicine originated in Northern China between 1500 BCE and 1600 CE and spread to neighboring Asian countries especially Vietnam, Korea, Japan and Taiwan. Today, research has shown that Taoism and martial arts are closely related practices and that meditation is more beneficial than any other kind of exercise. Research has also suggested that spiritual traditions might cause mental illness so if you’re struggling to adapt, then you might benefit from spending a few minutes practicing your chow.

Chi and Hs represent the body, breath, and psyche. A common phrase in Chinese is called “shui”, meaning to improve; whereas an ordinary Chinese sentence means “tiaomoshuo” or words in Mandarin. Both are derived from the Latin word for “wonders”. To begin, students usually learn basic elements like standing poses on chairs with arms extended, sitting poses on seats with elbows bent, and the like for about 30 min. They learn how to manipulate objects like chopsticks in both languages without learning the language. Students are encouraged to sit up straight as this improves posture and helps relieve stiffness. Once they have mastered the basics, the next stage is “Tong”, or “The Way”, where they practice simple postures and breathing techniques similar to those of other traditional exercises. Most often, these postures are performed several times a day and are repeated whenever the subject is brought back to focus. After each session, students are encouraged to leave after about 45 min on their own accord. At the end of the class, everyone should do some short summaries of their days together by performing some of the exercises in class. Since they are being taught the same material over multiple sessions, this is a great way to keep moving forward as they progress through the classes.

Chih may be useful when suffering from chronic illnesses such as diabetes and high blood pressure or in situations of stress. However, there is no evidence that it works very well in cases of trauma and violence. So, you must be ready to confront whatever challenges come your way.

3) Jai SamaVardha or Mantra SamaVardha – Mantras

Jai SamaVardha is a term of Sanskrit means “to save” and Sanskrit itself means “to be saved.” Basically, this is just a one-word mantra that you repeat when you are asked a question. As opposed to saying “I am”, it means “to save myself.” Mantra SamaVardha is usually done to lift spirits or bring peace and harmony and serenity to the soul. In other words, before you take up this practice, try to think of any mantras that you feel the greatest need to remember; you don’t want to add to the burden of daily stresses; instead, you want to make them lighter. You don’t necessarily need to recite the entire Mantra SamaVardha every morning but if you know that it has something special and special about it and that you want to share it with others, it is much better. Do this: Find a Mantra SamaVardha based on a reason and add your contribution to it. Say it aloud from your heart, in front of family members or friends, and ask them to listen. Do it again! Keep at least three separate Mantra SamaVardhas in your house, office, school, and home, and always follow them regularly if you wish. Letting your subconscious mind and your conscious mind work together is essential as they will complement each other and may create harmony in our souls.

The main aim of Mantra SamaVardha is to achieve calmness, peacefulness, tranquility, wisdom, and harmony. These are only possible when you concentrate on the message of your mantra and stop trying to identify yourself. This is an excellent method to overcome depression and isolation.

4) Yoga asanas (Meditations)

Asanas are considered amongst the most important part of Yoga. Even though the majority of modern Yoga practices today follow the 3Rs, the most important aspect of Yoga, in general, is asana. Asanas are performed on the basis of different reasons, however, the following four are considered the most effective among them.

Raja Sit, or AdhoMuktiya, which means that you have been physically present (present in the sense that you were born or raised) for a long time, that you’ve grown accustomed to being with yourself (your own body, mind, feelings, and emotions), and that you are willing to accept (to surrender to yourself or to another human, for example, a parent) the consequences (both positive and negative) of that (present in oneself) willingness to accept (or surrender) to change, to evolve, to grow, and to transform.

BhavaKatasana, which means the presence of the divine spirit in the state of consciousness (Jiva). With BhavaKatasana, many different deities are mentioned in the state of consciousness that is meant specifically as manifestations of that deity and that person. Usually, one deity is associated directly with one specific object or person, e.g. Vishnu or Shiva, or indirectly associated with many individuals such as Brahma, Vishnu, and Indra. The idea is that we are able to recognize such gods by means of becoming familiar with the person’s name and their personality, which is called “the name” or “Vishwasthita”. To begin, students become acquainted with the names of the personalities that they are likely to encounter in the course of their lives and they start repeating the name of the divinity in praise. A typical chant that lasts for 10 to 15 min is said, “May the Lord make my life to be pure, wholesome, pleasant, and acceptable to You. May I receive Your blessings and all things pleasurable in heaven; may I obtain the highest state of Nirvana and happiness in my life.” If you have already experienced the state of Nirvana, it is far easier to continue following the chanting. Some examples of people who did yoga asanas and later received good results were Mahatma Gandhi and Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, and some Indian poets like Kamal Chhabria.

5) Ayurvedic Therapies

Ayurvedic is a Persian term that describes a vast collection of medical treatments that date back thousands of years. There are almost 300 different products under the Ayurveda system so it isn’t difficult to figure out which product suits you best.
